City Working Out Purchase of Bio-Reactors for Bio Wastes

BAGUIO CITY – Acting mayor Daniel Farinas last week sped up procedures to facilitate the purchase of bioreactors to process biodegradable wastes in barangays in the city to help in waste management efforts.

Farinas issued two orders approving amendments needed to speedup the purchase procedures.

In Administrative Order No. 176, Farinas approved the transfer of the site of the proposed bioreactors originally intended to be established at the Irisan dumpsite to Tabora Park at Lower Magsaysay.

Farinas said this would include the machines covered by the Amended Proposed Purchase Request and corresponding Obligation Request amounting to P3,800,000.

Farinas said the city council in Resolution No. 307 series of 2008 identified Tabora Park as the site of the materials recovery facility (MRF) for Cluster I and the said location has been duly identified by the Environment Management Bureau of the Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and that the city buildings and architecture office is preparing the necessary plan for the said with a budget of P863,500 aside from the composting machines and delivery truck costing P2,936,500.

In Administrative Order No. 177, the acting mayor directed the amendment of the specifications of the bioreactors intended for the Lower Rock Quarry MRF amounting to P2,000,000 from the Dept. of Science and Technology (DOST) model to the Lacto Asia model which is said to cost less and is proven to be effective.

He said there is a need to change the kind of composting machine to complete the needs of the MRF with two composting drums and all the needed components plus one residual converter and deliver vehicle.

He said this would complete the requirements for the Lower Quarry MRF which has the shed ready for use. – aileen p. refuerzo
