Nutrition month activities

BAGUIO CITY – Health enthusiasts in the city are expected to join the activities in the grassroots level, in celebration of the 36th nutrition month; basically with the Barangay Nutrition Action Officers (BNAOs) Annual Convention at the Health Services Office Conference Hall on July 20.
Children and their nutritional needs are the main focus of the celebration, with the theme, “Sa Pagkaing Tama at Sapat, Wastong Timbang ni Baby ang Katapat.”
At the forefront are the industrious and devoted nutrition workers who during the launching ceremonies on July 5, lugged and set up their apparatus and conducted weighing and basic laboratory procedures, gave out vitamins and minerals, distributed nutritious wet and dry rations to the general public, all at the right side of the Baguio Convention Center lobby. Seeds; Pechay, black beans and hot pepper; yam and sweet camote cuttings for urban gardening; were also distributed outside of the BCC; still with the nutrition workers doing the legwork.
Punong Barangays Jesusa Vizcaya of Loakan proper, Tomas Dumalti of Irisan, Arturo Rapelo Jr. of Imelda Village, Soriano Palugan of Happy Hallow, Ernesto Laguardia of Imelda Marcos, and Mario de Guzman of West Modernsite, who together with their barangay health and nutrition workers achieved commendable nutrition programs were also presented during the launching program. Each gave pointers on how to achieve good nutrition status among their constituents.
This Sunday, July 18, Sto. Nino barangay in Slaughterhouse shall have a complementary feeding cooking contest, mass feeding/nutrition feeding, and draw and tell contest as part of their nutrition month activities.
On July 20 and 21, Happy Homes Barangay shall have the cleanest and greenest purok contest, clean-up drive, tree planting, and clean and green program, same as what MRR Queen of Peace observes on July 23, and Holy Ghost Proper on July 25.
A complementary feeding cooking contest shall be done at City Camp Proper on July 21, while Asin road, Victoria Village and Imelda Village barangays shall have such on July 22, Hillside on July 23, and, City Camp Central and Loakan-Liwanag on July 24.
South Drive Barangay officials shall distribute seeds and seedlings: products of the community garden; to their constituents on July 24.
Healthiest baby contest, bright child contest, bibong bata contest, healthiest mother and child, healthiest, talented mom shall be observed in different barangays on different dates; Holy Ghost Proper on July 21; Victoria Village and Asin Road Barangay on July 22; Camdas and West Quirino Hill, on July 24; and, Camp 7, Gibraltar and Imelda Marcos barangays on July 25.
Mass feeding/nutrition feeding shall be done in Campo Filipino and Zamora barangays on July 23; Imelda village and Camdas barangays on July 24; DPS barangay on July 10 to 30; and Cresencia Village on July 25.
Meanwhile, a cut-flower production training is set to be done within the third week of July in Pinget barangay
Pucsusan barangay health officials decided to focus on the importance of nutrition for infants as it shall have an exclusive breastfeeding contest for lactating mothers on July 22.
Draw and tell contests shall be done at Victoria Village on July 22 and Brookspoint barangay on. July 23, while multivitamins and iron tablets (Ferrous Sulfate) shall be distributed in South Sanitary Camp on the same date.
Slogan and Postermaking contests shall be conducted at West Quirino Hill and City Camp Central on July 24; as West Modernsite shall have a medical mission and Pasadang Pambarangay.
North Sanitary Camp barangay shall distribute Educational Materials during alternate information dissemination campaign/health and nutrition seminar/forum and lecture on complementary feeding for the whole month of July.
Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center has also launched its nutrition program last July 5 and shall continue with nutrition counseling with wet sampling at the dietary hall on July 20 and 23. A food demonstration shall be conducted for dietary staff and personnel on July 23. – juliegfianza
