Status of traffic experiments sought

Senior Citizen Official-for-a-Day (SCOFAD) Mayor Betty Lourdes Tabanda  directed the Traffic and Transport Management Committee to submit a report on the results of the various traffic experiments implemented in the city to determine if these are effective and apt for permanent adoption.

In a memorandum order also adopted by Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Tabanda asked for a status report on the experimental traffic programs, some of which are still being enforced.

These include the one-way schemes from Upper Session Road to North Drive to Leonard Wood Road to the Post Office Loop to Father Carlu St. fronting Baguio Cathedral to Session Road; through Assumption Road to Gen. Luna and down through Mabini St. towards  Harrison Road; from Yandoc St. to City Hall Loop; from Gov. Pack Road to Government Center fronting  Baguio Convention Center to Upper Harrison Road to Gov. Pack Road fronting Baguio City National High School; and the no left turn from Upper Mabini St. to Session Road.

“Considering these are experiments and should have a period of implementation but did not have an identified time frame for them to be conducted, there is now a need for the TTMC to submit the results which be considered in the formulation of the Transport Master Plan to be adopted into an ordinance,” the memorandum said.

She said the formulation of the transport master plan is included in the 2013-2023 Comprehensive Land Use Plan for which the TTMC has been designated to spearhead.

The order gave the TTMC 30 days to submit the report. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
