BAGUIO CITY – Businessmen here are now required to present Social Security System (SSS) clearance certificate before they can secure mayor’s permit or business license.
The city council last Monday approved on final reading an ordinance stipulating said requirement.
The measure which was authored by Councilor Nicasio Aliping Jr. also requires business establishments to display their SSS certificates of registration in their offices.
“As observed, only few business establishments or offices display their SSS certificates of registration or business plates in their business premises. This clearance is needed to ensure protection of the interest of employees,” Aliping noted.
“In order to protect the interest of employees whose salaries are being deducted from the payment of SSS contributions and to make sure and certain that said employees’ contributions are remitted to the SSS, the presentation of clearance certificate by the employers/business establishments and agencies are necessary in order to observe compliance with existing SSS regulations.”
As provided in the ordinance, no mayor’s permit of license will be issued to employers or business establishments without them presenting the SSS certificate.
Violators will be subject to fines ranging from P500 to P1,500 and revocation of business permit. – A Refuerzo
