City to launch “contact-less” medical consultation AI platform

5 February 2021 – Initial stages of the Telemedicine artificial intelligence (AI) system aimed at connecting coronavirus disease 2019 patients and medical professionals without the need of being physically present for consultations, is underway.

Thus, revealed Dr. Ruel Revilla of the Reimagined Team, the project’s proponent,  during the regular management committee meeting Tuesday of city officials led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong at the Baguio Convention Center.

The Baguio-based team  is composed of Revilla, Christer Cruz and Leimara Phitaka together with a slew of information technology (IT) experts.

Funding for the project is provided by NTT-Data and other international institutions in support of the city’s fight to stifle the ill effects of the ongoing health crisis.

Revilla explained that the technology platform, when fully implemented, will not only allow local residents  free consultation with medical doctors without the need of being physically present but also have access to the latest news and information on the coronavirus disease 2019 virus and other health issues.

“The platform also provides additional support to patients even if they have been discharged from the hospital,” he said.

Informational tools on vaccine management and  creating “heat maps” of vulnerable sectors are included in the platform’s array of benefits.

Revilla revealed  that they answered the Mayor’s call for a system that would provide “contact-less” medical consultations  since this will bolster the city’s ramped-up drive against the disease’s spread.

Formal launching of the AI project is this month and will be free of charge for Baguio residents only for now, Revilla said.-Gaby B. Keith
