18 May 2022 – Mayor Benjamin Magalong has directed the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO), City Buildings and Architecture Office, and the City Planning and Development Office to formulate a plan and design for the city’s livestock market.

The Mayor gave the order during the regular management committee meeting of local officials, May 17, at City Hall upon the recommendation of CVAO head Dr. Silardo Bested.

Bested said the planned livestock market will be situated at the land along Marcos Highway given by the Department of Agriculture to the city government as a usufruct where the DA allows the city the right to enjoy and use the property short of outright ownership.

He explained that the live chickens being sold at the public market’s block four while the pigs, goats and other animals at the Slaughterhouse compound and Lakandula area will all be transferred to the livestock market should the project materialize.

The structure’s plans and design including the number of stalls needed to be constructed and other specifications are targeted to be completed within a month’s time, Bested disclosed.

He stressed that a public consultation will also be conducted with stakeholders to get their opinions, suggestions and other inputs that will be taken into consideration and integrated in the proposed project.-Gaby B. Keith
