Tam – Awan celebrates 12th international festival

Heritage, culture and Art takes centerstage anew as the Chanum Foundation stages the 12th Tam-Awan International Arts Festival (TIAF) on October 5 to 9, 2022.

In partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the festival is themed “Hapit Di Aammod: Wisdom in Shapes, Colors, and Words,” converges over 300 artists, culture bearers, workers and artisans from all over the country and the world for a 5- day artistic display at artist haven, Tam-awan Village.

LITTLE MISS BAGUIO WINNERS

30 September 2022 - A 10-year old girl from San Vicente barangay was proclaimed Little Miss Baguio 2022 in the pageant’s coronation night held Sept. 17, 2022 at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center.

Sczairy Requilman bested 14 other candidates in the different stages of the pageant staged as part of the 113th Baguio Day activities.

Aside from taking the crown, Requilman was also awarded best in sportswear, formal wear, talent and ethnic costume.

LAND NEEDS IDENTIFICATION BODY REVIVED

30 September 2022 - Mayor Benjamin Magalong has ordered the reconstitution of the City Land Needs Identification Committee (CLNIC) in a bid to expedite the identification and titling of lands for city and barangay needs.

By virtue of Executive Order No. 101-2022 signed recently, the committee will be chaired by the mayor himself with the city administrator as co-chair.

COUNTRY CLUB VILLAGE BARANGAY HEADS, TANODS DEPUTIZED ON STRAY DOG CONTROL

30 September 2022 - Mayor Benjamin Magalong has deputized 15 officials and tanods of Country Club Village barangay as apprehending officers in stray dog control.

With the authority, they are tasked “to apprehend and issue citation tickets to those who shall violate any provisions of” Ordinance NO. 19-2021 or “An Ordinance Codifying Legislations on Dogs: The Responsible Dog Ownership Ordinance of Baguio City.”

ECO-TRAIL SOON AT BOTANICAL GARDEN

30 |September 2022 - The City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) is currently rehabilitating a natural stream and establishing an eco-trail along its bank for an immersive ecological experience that will serve as a new offering of the Baguio Botanical Garden come 2023.

"This new attraction will provide a meaningful experience for parkgoers as they navigate the restored stream that was once ruined by humanly- induced pollution," CEPMO head Atty. Rhenan Diwas said.

TECHIE TAHO VENDOR: "QR Lang po sa umaga"

28 September 2022 – Baguio City is the first local government unit to adopt the program co-developed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Department of the Interior and Local Government, which is the Paleng-QR program.

According to the BSP, Baguio City through the efforts of its officialdom headed by Mayor Benjamin Magalong is keen on implementing the Paleng-QR Ph endeavour which is aligned with its e-governance and digitalization thrust.

LGU BAGUIO HELPS PRIVATE HOSPITALS IRON OUT PHILHEALTH ACCREDITATION ISSUES

29 September 2022 – The city government of Baguio mediated in ironing out the concerns of private hospitals on the impending move of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to revoke their accreditation over the hospitals' alleged failure to include senior citizen discounts in the computation of bills, among other issues.

BAGUIO BOY WINS BIG IN INTERNATIONAL BODYBUILDING COMPETITION

27 September 2022 – Baguio-born and raised Leejan Raphael G. Nacnac emerged victorious with two gold medals and a bronze medal during the fifth staging of the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF)-Philippines held September 17 in the City of Tayabas, Quezon Province.

Leejan Raphael was adjudged champion in the Men's Physique Juniors – Medium category as well as champion in the Men's Bodybuilding Juniors category. He placed fourth with a bronze medal in the Men's Physique Open – Medium category.

BAGUIO FAMILY WINS REG’L NATATANGING PAMILYANG PILIPINO, IS NAT’L FINALIST

29 September 2022 – As part of the celebration for the 30th National Filipino Family Week, awards for the regional Natatanging Pamilyang Pilipino (NPP) were given out at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) training center last Thursday, Sept. 22.

The Adjaro family from Sto. Tomas barangay copped the regional Natatanging Pamilyang Pilipino award 2022, with the dela Cruz (Irisan, Baguio) and Juan (Tuba, Benguet) families as finalists. All received plaques of recognition and cash awards.

FIRM PROPOSES SOLUTION TO CITY’s SOLID WASTE WOES

04 October 2022 – The current hauler of the city’s residual waste recently proposed a possible solution to the prevailing solid waste woes to help the farmers by maximizing the value of waste while minimizing environmental impact.

Metro Waste Corporation intends to use the whole-of-nation approach on waste management and regenerative agriculture to establish a permanent solution to the city’s solid waste problem, especially the disposal of the city’s residual waste.
